When Do You Put Your Christmas Tree Up?

Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier every year and even though it’s only November I have heard people saying they have their tree up already! Surely you will be bored of it before the big day comes?

My sister who’s birthday is on the 30th November always insisted the Christmas tree go up on the 1st December the day after but personally I think that’s too early. Traditionally they should go up 12 days before Christmas and come down 12 days afterwards.

I like that idea though I think my daughter would disagree and want them up a little earlier.

When do you put your Christmas tree up?

Carol

6 Weeks to Christmas: Let’s Get Organised!

Get Organised for Christmas

Ok we have 6 weeks until the big day, are you getting ready? If like most of us you haven’t even thought about it maybe now is the time to get organised.

It’s all about lists for me presents, cards and food all need to be listed so I don’t forget anything.

This is how I plan Christmas:

Presents

First thing I do is make a list of who I have to buy for so no one is missed out. I then allocate a budget per person including stocking fillers.

Star anyone you have to post presents in as they will be a priority and make a note of the Christmas posting dates you don’t want to miss them.  You can find the Post Office last posting dates here.

Each time you buy a gift for someone write it next to their name with the price so you don’t duplicate or overspend.

Cards

Make a list of you need to send a card to; I split it into ones to send and ones to give personally.

Again make a note of the last posting days; I try to send as soon as possible.

Make sure you buy enough stamps!

Food

This list gets spilt into Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and then meals for the days running up and after Christmas.

A meal plan is great for this, often we are so focused on the big day we forget about the others. This is how I would spilt the meal plan on the week running up to and after Christmas

17th - Main Meal

18th - Main Meal

19th - Main Meal

20th – Main Meal

21st - Main Meal

22nd – Main Meal

Christmas Eve – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Christmas Day – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Boxing Day – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

27th – Main Meal

That way you are covered and won’t run off food. Make sure you plan in any parties you are going to throw that will need a separate list.

I do most of my Christmas food shopping online it makes life easier. Start thinking now about where you are going to buy your food, do you need to order from several placed eg Butchers or Bakers or will you be doing it all at one place.

Think about everything you will need for each meal for example do you have enough gravy? Do you need oil?

I like to sit down with a big note pad, pen, calendar and a drink (Bailey’s Hot Chocolate is good) and get it all planned as soon as possible. I then know what I have to do and rarely miss anything.
