Guest Post: Home Made Aromatherapy Play Dough

Hi everyone, it is Jen from The Mad House, A Thrifty Mum and Frugal and Fun

Home Made Aromatherapy Play Dough

Ingredients

1 and half cups (1 cup is 250ml) of salt

3 cups of warm water

3 cups of plain flour

3 tablespoons of oil

6 teaspoons of cream of tartar

Food colouring

Essential oils

Method

  1. add the salt and water to a large pan and heat until the salt to melt has melted
  2. add the flour, oil and cream of tartar and heat over a medium heat, stirring continuously until it starts to pull away from the sides (you need to be quite vigorous)
  3. Tip out the dough and need for about 2 minutes
  4. Split the dough in to smaller amounts and add food colouring and essential oil

I use lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary and roman camomile essential oils, but you could also add food grade essences to including vanilla, lemon and almond.

These keep in an airtight container for about three months

Like this craft?  Then my not register to follow us on Frugal and Fun.  We are going to be releasing an e-book full of frugal ideas to keep you and your children happy over the summer holidays.

Do you love or loath the summer holidays?

I am in the love camp, but I do remember the time when my boys were both smaller that I dreaded them and the thought of six weeks (or more) straight with them sent me in to a tailspin.

This year you need worry no more, as we have an e-book on the way out which will show you frugal and fun ways to get through the summer holiday.

It  begins with a week of preparation activities to help you get ready for the weeks ahead. The e-book will contain a recipe, an indoor activity and an outdoor activity each day within themed weeks. These activities are suitable for 3-10 years olds.

Themes include:

  • The Olympics
  • The Great Outdoors
  • Around the World
  • Heroes and Heroines
  • Home Sweet Home
  • Colours

Kids One Stop Shop Tests: Lindam White Hot Safety Sunblock Sunshade

Lindam White Hot Safety Sunblock Sunshade Lindam White Hot Safety Sunblock Sunshades

What They Say:

The white hot alert system indicates when the temperature is too hot, so you can ensure a comfortable journey for your child. The shade is easily secured to the car window using secure suction cups and can be removed with the simple 2 step release button. The suction cups attach to the car window and can not be removed from the shade, reducing a potential choking hazard. Keep your little one fully protected from harmful UV rays when they?re in the care with the White Hot sunblock shade from Lindam. The white hot alert system indicates when the temperature is too hot, so you can ensure a comfortable journey for your child. The shade is easily secured to the car window using secure suction cups and can be removed with the simple 2 step release button.

What We Say:

A Nice plan black car shade, that’s sturdy and well made

Pros:

  • Good solid construction
  • Simple 2 step wind up which allows a little at a time to wound back in at a time as well as right up
  • Simple visual reference to indicate temperature
  • UV blocking vinyl

Cons

  • Being square make sure you check your windows, you can easily be left with too much or too little of the window being covered

Overall Experience:

This is one of the best car blinds that I have come across so far.

It is simple, well made, and does exactly what it needs to do. It also rolls up neatly and out of the way when you don’t need it to!

It is well made and having being subjected to a month of being pulled, yanked, and bashed on a daily basis is still working as well as the day we got it.

The “white spot” is a helpful reassurance but personally think it’s a bit of a gizmo.

My only niggle is that the suction cups don’t always stick but then again when do they ever?

The Lindam White Hot Safety Sunblock Sunshade is available from Kiddicare for £8.99

Win a London 2012 Trunki

We are really spoiling you this week with not one but two giveaways!

Tuesday we launched a blog giveaway for a Liberty Print Dribblebuster and over on Kids One Stop Shop we have a London 2012 Trunki for one lucky person to win.

Trunki was created to beat the boredom so often suffered by travelling tots. Designed to be used as hand luggage, kids can pack Trunki with all their favourite toys then ride off, whilst parents keep them in tow.

London 2012 Trunki features:

  • Locking catches
  • Teddy bear seatbelts
  • Bits pouch
  • Two carry handles
  • Secret compartments
  • Multifunctional carry-tow strap
  • Sticker pack to customise

We love Trunki at Kids One Stop Shop but don’t just take our word for it:

Bernard the bee, my 1 year old son got this trunki for his birthday from my parents and it is brilliant he sits on it all the time and pushes himself around on it, it’s great when he goes to stay at his grandparents overnight, we are due to go on holiday in 2 weeks and can’t wait to use it at the airport, it has taken him a while to get used to holding on the handles but apart from that he loves it, and the bright colours are fantastic!

 Kate Taylor – Redditch

It’s not just suitcases that they make:

Trunki Travel ToyBox

Pippin the Penguin Travel Pillow and Blanket

Shark PaddlePak Waterproof Backpack

BoostApak - rucksack which doubles as a booster seat

To win a London 2012 Trunki, just click here and fill the simple entry form in.

Closing Date 27th July.
